Area Activity Guide: Rochester Innovation Week

November 2017

Emerging Opportunities

Last Fall, we told you all about RYP’s 6th Annual Entrepreneur’s Expo. It was an opportunity for anyone inspired to start a small business in Rochester to mingle with emerging companies that have already made it happen, to glean insights from established entrepreneurs, and to access an abundance of local small-business resources. My, how things have changed.

The 7th Annual Entrepreneur’s Expo is coming up again on November 8th, and in a lot of ways, it will look similar to past iterations. The event will still bring together 40+ entrepreneurs, startups, small business owners, and non-profit leaders for an opportunity to network with some of the most innovative and driven entrepreneurs that Rochester has to offer. This year, however, so many start-up-related events are occurring in early November that, taken together, they’ve created what High Tech Rochester is calling Rochester Innovation Week.

A Whole Week of Innovation

Paul Singh at the Penthouse

Renowned entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and results junkie Paul Singh will be in town November 6-8 with his North American Tech Tour. The evening of November 7th, he’ll be at the Penthouse at One East Ave to give a talk entitled “The Business of (Tech) Startups: The Intersection of Startups, Venture Capital, and Economic Development.” Singh’s presentation is open to the public and is sure to be insightful and thought-provoking.

Luminate Lightning Awards

Luminate is a new startup accelerator funded by the state of New York that’s focused on advancing optics, photonics, and imaging enabled companies. On November 8th, a field of 20 finalists for the Luminate accelerator program will pitch their ideas, and 10 teams will be selected for the first cohort of Luminate. Attend the event at the Rochester Hyatt Regency Hotel to get a glimpse of future innovation in our region.

Startup Drinks

Startup Drinks happens every month, but with all the entrepreneurial programming taking place this week, the November 9th event promises to be a doozy. Even more interesting people than usual can be expected to get together, this time at ROC Brewing, to chat about their startups, ideas, and side projects!
