Area Activity Guide: Twilight Criterium

May 2019

The Rochester Twilight Criterium is back!

This year, Rochester’s very own “Nascar on two wheels” anticipates more than 20,000 screaming spectators at one of the most intense bike races you’ll ever see. What makes the criterium is so intense is that, though it’s shorter than a regular road race, the course is more technically challenging and includes lots of turns. This gives competitors some increased pressure to give it all they’ve got! Athletes come from all over the world to compete.

New for 2019

For 2019, there are more barricades to improve safety for spectators and participating athletes. Also new this year, the beer garden has been expanded to cover the entire interior of the course, allowing more space to hang out and better access to the action. There are also men’s and women’s 1-mile foot races taking place, in both the high-speed (Elite) and amateur categories. The criterium atmosphere turns these foot races into thrilling events.

Fun for Little Ones

Come out early for Little Kids and Big Rigs (LKBR) from 2 pm to 5 pm, which will include free events like face painting, interactive play, and Big Wheel Races for all ages. Kids (and the young at heart) will also be excited for the chance to see real fire trucks, police cars, an ambulance, and construction vehicles. This year, LKBR has moved to the Broad Street Bridge where it will be part of a full day of free family activities happening before the world-class criterium events. There will also be some sensory friendly activities and live music.

Vital Stats

The 5th annual MVP Health Twilight Criterium will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2019. The race is free to watch, but bring your wallet for the expanded beer garden and the Food Truck Rodeo, featuring some of Rochester’s favorite food on wheels.
