A Shopping-Smaller Holiday

Celebrate the “shop local” movement in Rochester on Saturday, November 24th, this year’s Small Business Saturday. Behind the movement, there’s a worthy premise, which is consciously choosing to support the small, independent businesses that bring quality, variety, and creativity to our neighborhoods. The Business Association of the South Wedge Area (BASWA) has repeatedly been designated a Neighborhood Champion by American Express, which created Small Business Saturday. BASWA ensures that the South Wedge is bustling with activity and packed with one-of-a-kind goods for this special day. You may be able to cross every gift recipient off your list without leaving the neighborhood. But if you have to expand your shopping radius, check out these other special, local-centric events.

Special Event 1: Curated

On Small Business Saturday, Shop Peppermint brings you Curated, a one-day independent market featuring the best designers, artisans, and makers from the Upstate NY Area. You can expect to see a curated group of 40 independent designers and artists, selling everything from home décor and furniture to stationery and men’s leather goods. Curated will make it easy for shoppers to support the local economy, discover independent artists, join in community, and have a blast with DJs, free gift wrapping, pics with Santa, and more. The market will be held at the Culver Road Armory in the Culture Lab space from 10 am to 4 pm.

Special Event 2: Pop-Up Shop at the Yards

Need more heirloom gifts for those hardest to buy for on your gift list? Head over to The Yards Collective on Small Business Saturday to find unique handcrafted items that are perfect for gift giving. The pop-up shop will feature more than a dozen local artists, and a handful of resident studio artists will be present to share their work. There will also be a few pop-up vendors on site, like Gruntwerk and Rachel Farley Art. The first 25 guests will be entered into a top-secret raffle! The market will be open from 10 am to 2 pm.
