Giving Tuesday & ROC the Day

Global Action

Shouldn’t a long weekend of shopping holidays kicked off by a bountiful feast shared with friends and family be bookended by another meaningful celebration? Maybe it’s an optimistic view, but it’s one that feels pretty good to adopt. Cap off nearly a week of abundance by giving of your time, skills, funds, or voice on Giving Tuesday (November 27th). This global day of giving, powered by social media and collaboration, is a great annual opportunity to connect with the community around you in the name of positive change. To find out what’s going on around the world, explore the Giving Tuesday global directory.

Local Impact

The biggest Giving Tuesday initiative taking place here in Rochester is ROC the Day, a 24-hour online giving event founded and hosted by the United Way of Greater Rochester. Now in its eighth year, ROC the Day 2018 will raise funds for 544 nonprofit programs and agencies in the nine-county Greater Rochester area. It’s raised $4.7 million since 2011. The best thing about ROC the Day is that all gifts stay local and directly help local people and organizations. This year, during every odd hour of the event, one lucky donor will get an extra $500 for the charity of their choice. To decide which organizations you want to support on Giving Tuesday, you can browse the cause directory in advance. There will likely be some organizations you’ve never heard of, as well as some you’ve forgotten. On a day like this, a small donation can go a long way.

ROCtheDay.org is a secure online giving platform. Donors who wish to give via telephone (credit or debit card only) can call (800) 242-0238 anytime between midnight and 11:59 pm on November 27th.
