Isn’t the South Wedge awesome?

If you’ve been living in the South Wedge for very long, you’ve probably grown accustomed to expecting big things for and from this neighborhood. Still, having Rochester’s only food co-op move in right down the street sounds too good to be true.

Well, it’s happening!

Abundance Food Co-op is in the early stages of moving from its current home on Marshall Street to a space nearly twice the size at 571 South Avenue. At the new South Wedge location, Abundance will be able to offer a wider selection, lower prices, better wages, more local produce, extended hours, and more prepared food. The space at 571 South Avenue will provide 7,500 square feet of retail space, plus 5,000 square feet for warehouse, admin, and community use.

But when?

It’s normal to be excited when your incredible neighborhood becomes even more abundant, but these things take time (and patience). The strategy for this particular move has been in the works for years, and it will continue to unfold carefully and deliberately. Like any significant construction project, this transition will inevitably run into some hurdles. The goal is to make a smooth and successful transition so that Abundance can serve even more members of the Rochester community. While you wait, you can follow the latest developments at the Co-Op’s website.
