South and Hickory Facade

Area Activity Guide: City Love 2019

April 2019

Celebrate the South Wedge!

As a resident of South & Hickory Place, you’re a bona fide South Wedge Dweller – a denizen of one of Rochester’s most popular and in-demand neighborhoods. Here at the heart of all that’s happening in our city, there’s a whole lot of love. That shared appreciation for the South Wedge is what makes City Love our neighborhood’s event of the season. Maybe you don’t get to the South Wedge Farmers Market or buy from local vendors as often as you’d like. City Love is an opportunity to come out, show your support, and learn more about all the things that make our neighborhood so great. All proceeds support neighborhood housing initiatives, rehabilitation, preservation, community victory gardens, The South Wedge Farmers Market and The Wedge newspaper.

Time to Get Funky!

This year’s, City Love invites you to Get Down and Get Funky with a “Funkytown” theme. Local entertainers Uptown Groove will be playing classic funk to get everyone feeling groovy. Partygoers dressed in their funkiest fashions will get a chance at awards and the honor of being crowned the King or Queen of Funk. This will all take place against the backdrop of a newly renovated Historic German House. City Love will be the public’s first peek at a recently completed facelift for the facility.

Sip, Sample & Escape Reality

Hopefully, everyone in attendance will be inspired to dance the night away, but the fun extends well beyond the entertainment. Throughout the event, local restaurants and vendors will be offering samples, including craft beer and whiskey. VeRacity VRcade will give more adventurous attendees a free opportunity to try the latest virtual reality games. There will also be a photo booth, silent auction, and raffle prizes.

City Love 2019 will be held Friday, May 3rd at the Historic German House from 6:30 to 9 pm.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door ($15 with valid Student ID). You can buy them in advance at ButaPub or the SWPC Office at 224 Mount Hope Avenue.
