Area Activity Guide: Groove Juice Swing
April 2016
There’s plenty of exciting stuff going on in the South Wedge, but did you know that spreading the love of swing dancing was one of them? Thanks to Groove Juice Swing, you can find Rochestarians of all ages Lindy Hopping in the Wedge most nights of the week.
Dedicated Swing Dancers
The 12-year-old locally based organization specializes in Lindy Hop and offers dance classes, social dances, live-band dance events, performances, and dance workshops throughout the year. Groove Juice members and instructors travel the world to learn from the very best in the business and bring excitement to the dance community in Rochester.
You’re Invited to the Dance!
Whether you want to cut a rug or leave the dancing to the professionals, there’s a Groove Juice event for you.
- Every Tuesday there’s an $8 drop-in “Cardio Charleston” workout that prioritizes exercise while letting dance moves sink in for new dancers.
- There’s a Lindy Jam every Wednesday from 8:45 to 11 pm at the Historic German House. Admission is $5, but your first one is free.
- The April 22nd Gatsby Gala will be an opportunity to “don your finest flapper dresses, tuxedos, and Jazz Age fashions, and experience one of the most colorful and formative epochs in American history.” The $12 admission includes a beginner Charleston lesson at 6, followed by a 3-hour party with dancing, performances, and vintage film showings.
- They keep the Events calendar full at Groove Juice, so bookmark it or add it to your Google Calendar to put a little swing in your step on the regular.
