Area Activity Guide: It’s Jazz Fest Time!
June 2016
Get ready for some serious jazz!
From your home in the South Wedge, you’re perfectly situated to conveniently enjoy all the special events that make Rochester “Festival City USA.” There’s no better time to leverage your location at the heart of the action than during the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. This world-famous festival brings together more than 1,500 artists for 324 concerts in 19 Rochester venues. That includes 93 free performances and events officially affiliated with the festival, and even more independent shows throughout the city.
A Highlight of Rochester Life
What other event draws nearly a quarter of a million people to Upstate New York? (You’re right. It’s the Lilac Festival.) Since its inception in 2002, Rochester’s Jazz Fest has quickly grown into a 9-day extravaganza showcasing domestic and international artists’ unique perspectives on the “true American art form.” If you’ve never attended, you may discover that the diversity of spectacular talent makes you proud to be a Rochesterian. Even if jazz isn’t your thing, anyone can find a unique sound to enjoy by drifting from venue to venue.
Discover Downtown
Whether you prefer dining, drinking, or dancing, there are plenty of reasons to stay close to home in the South Wedge. That shouldn’t mean that you miss out on all that downtown Rochester has to offer. This year’s Jazz Festival has been highlighted as an opportunity for locals and out-of-towners to see the changes recent investment and development have brought to the downtown neighborhood. Whether you go all in on a Club Pass or just want to sample the free sights and sounds, there’s no better time to get acquainted with the center of the city.
