A League for the Ladies

Everyone could use a dose of girl power between the end of the NFL season and the lead-up to March Madness. Did you know there’s a league right here in Rochester where powerful women perform feats of athleticism, brutally battling it out in a form of fast-paced competition that’s served with a side of dark humor? Well, if you’ve never been to a Roller Derby bout, you’re missing out on an exciting women’s sport. Just down the road in Henrietta, Roc City Roller Derby holds its home bouts at the Dome Arena.

It all goes down at the Dome.

Our local league is active in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and empowers members to develop as athletes, leaders, and good sportswomen. It also puts on an amazing show. When these ladies hit the track, it’s a mesmerizing display of athleticism, competitiveness, and pure grit. It’s not unusual to see skaters go flying, as derby is a hotly contested contact sport on wheels. To experience the rush in person, grab some tickets to a game at the Dome. Tickets are $10 for ages 13 and up and $5 for kids 5 to 12. You can buy them online or in person at several local establishments.
