Explore Community Supported Agriculture with CSA Fair
April 2015
Have you considered joining a CSA? CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and is a wonderful way to support local farmers while also sharing in the bounty of healthy fruits and vegetables they produce. In most cases when joining a CSA you pay for a share up front to a particular farm, and then are able to pick up freshly harvested produce from them throughout the growing season. This can be a fantastic way to eat healthier, learn more about where your food comes from, and experiment with produce you may not have tried before.
Most programs start in the summer and continue through Fall, but there are some that offer winter shares (think squash and apples from cold storage). Some, like the Good Food Collective, even offer shares of food beyond vegetables, like pork, cheese, and even pasta!
If you’re interested in learning more about CSAs and finding a program that’s a good fit for you, you’re in luck: St. John’s Home and MVP Healthcare are sponsoring a CSA Fair on Saturday, March 7th, at Brickstone at St. John’s (1325 Elmwood Ave.). The event will take place from 1-3pm, and will feature representatives from 12 different farms/ CSA programs.
We hope you’ll go chat with some farmers and find the perfect CSA program for a healthy you!
