What happened to Bollywood Sugar?
November 2015
If you’ve been by the old Playhouse on South Clinton recently, you might have noticed a dramatic change. Bollywood Sugar, the mural created in July by Netherlands-based artist Handiedan as part of Wall Therapy’s 2015 efforts, has come down.
Rest assured that the damage was not the work of heartless vandals. This unique mural made with wheatpaste was never meant to be permanent. Unfortunately, it came down a lot earlier and far more quickly than anyone expected. The decision to host a wheatpaste mural was based in part on the example of another piece the artist created in Berlin. That similarly composed piece stayed put with minimal peeling for over a year.
If you caught a glimpse or snapped a photo of Bollywood Sugar, you’re lucky. If this story just stirs up your curiosity, check out Wall Therapy’s video about the making of the mural. These images are all that remains of this incredibly short-lived work of art.
